Each tidbit is just the
beginning for your
Kitchen Table Classroom.

Fill your plate!

Collect a list of compound words (sidewalk, airport, barefoot, bathroom, bedspread, birdhouse, breakfast, buttermilk, campfire, cowboy, cupboard, etc.) and print each complete word on a separate strip of paper or file card.

Using scissors, cut the cards so that each of the smaller words is isolated. Hide one word of each pair (or turn it upside down on the table), and have your partner search for the cards to complete the other halves of the compound words. Some half-words may be used more than once, but the goal is to use all of the cards, so you may have to rearrange them .

When all matches have been found and the correct number of compound words have been made, it will be the next player's turn to hide half of the cards again.
